2011 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-006

Description

WDDO-006 documents a doubled die obverse on the 2011-P Lincoln Shield Cent, attributed by the Wexler Team and catalogued as Wexler Variety ID 2011 1¢ WDDO-006. The Union Shield reverse design was introduced in 2010 as the permanent successor to the four Lincoln Bicentennial reverses, and this obverse variety was identified early in its production run. Extra thickness is the primary doubling symptom, visible on the ERTY of LIBERTY and on the date; notches appear at the top-left of the TY of LIBERTY, sharpening the diagnostic. Die markers confirm the specific die: a light die scratch runs NNE from the top of Lincoln's head, passing between the lower W and E of WE, and a pre-die crack depression is present in another location on the obverse.
