2011 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-005

Description

Cross-referenced as Coppercoins 2011P-1DO-006, Crawford CDDO-008, and CONECA 2-O-VI under Wexler Variety ID 2011 1¢ WDDO-005, this Philadelphia Lincoln Shield cent exhibits strong extra thickness on LIBERTY, the date, and IN GOD WE TRUST, with separation lines on the date and TRUST letters. The obverse markers include a die gouge right of the lower D in GOD, a small gouge above the zero, a gouge northwest of the 2, another close to the vest south of the 2, and a crack running southwest to northeast through the hair on the upper head. The reverse shows a gouge between the F in OF and the first A in AMERICA, plus one right of the bottom N in CENT. Multiple cross-references across three attribution systems confirm this variety's significance within the early Shield cent years, when collectors first began systematically documenting doubled dies on the redesigned reverse. A die crack runs from SW to NE through the hair on the upper back of the head.
