2010 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - P-1DER-005T Trail Die Reverse

Description

2010P-1DER-005T has trails at 170°, a little east of due south, from the bottoms of the IR in AMERICA, the M of UNUM, the letters of CENT, NE in ONE and the two sets of initials. TrailDies' number: 2010P for the date and Philadelphia mint, the one-cent digit 1, DER as the reverse-side code, file 005 and T for trails. Nothing is listed on the obverse of the middle-die-state coin; on the reverse a row of small gouges lies under the U of UNITED and a small crack leaves the top point of the shield. Louis Schaeffer, who also found 2010P-1DER-004T with its trails at 190°, found this die. Trails are generally credited to rotary polishing of the die, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
