2010 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - P-1DEO-014T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Two sets of trails run in very different directions on 2010P-1DEO-014T. One leaves the ST of TRUST at 115°, east-southeast, down and to the right; an apparent second set rises from the 01 of the date at 350°, just west of north. In TrailDies' code, 2010P is the date and Philadelphia mint, 1 the one-cent denomination, DEO the obverse design-extension class, 014 the file and T trails. TrailDies found no obverse markers on the middle-die-state coin, but the reverse has strong scratches running east to west through UNITED. Mark Britton found it. Trails are usually laid at the door of rotary polishing of the die, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
