2010P-1DEO-006T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Found by Albert Neils, the 2010P-1DEO-006T is a trail die obverse variety on the Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Shield Cent. Trail die obverse varieties preserve vestiges of a prior hub impression on the working die, producing faint secondary design traces on the obverse of struck coins. Documented at Stage B, the obverse is at mid-die-state with a small die dent below the W in WE. The reverse is also at MDS, carrying a small die gouge between the last A in AMERICA and the shield. These two markers, the dent below W on the obverse and the gouge near the A-shield junction on the reverse, provide independent diagnostics on each side of the coin. Both features are subtle enough to require magnification but are positioned near prominent design elements that serve as natural reference points.
