2009 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-011
Error
Description
Light eastward spread produces an extra partial column in the upper window east of the 4th column on this 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial Cent DDR-011, occurring on the Professional Life in Illinois reverse designed by Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by Don Everhart. This reverse depicts the nearly completed Illinois State Capitol building in Springfield, and the architectural columns and windows provide the same geometric diagnostic advantages seen on the Lincoln Memorial reverse — straight lines and right angles that make hub displacement clearly identifiable. Die markers UVC-2838 and DMR-013 track three stages: Stage A with reverse and obverse at Early Die State, Stage B at Mid Die State (unconfirmed), and Stage C at Late Die State (unconfirmed). The "partial column" doubling in the upper window area creates a ghost architectural element that appears to add an extra structural member to the building — a visually compelling effect where the doubling mimics legitimate architectural detail. Cataloged by VarietyVista, DDR-011 is the eleventh doubled die reverse documented on the Professional Life reverse, one of four 2009 Bicentennial designs that collectively generated hundreds of doubled die varieties during the single year of production. The confirmed EDS Stage A ensures that the earliest documented specimens preserve the doubling with maximum definition before die wear begins softening the secondary impressions.
