Description

Produced during the Lincoln Bicentennial year of 2009, when four different reverse designs honored milestones in Abraham Lincoln's life, this DDR-010 appears on the Professional Life design — depicting the partially constructed United States Capitol as a symbol of Lincoln's presidency and preservation of the Union. The doubling manifests as a medium spread to the west, creating an extra partial column visible in the upper window area east of the fourth column. The ghost column in the Capitol's window section translates hub displacement into an architectural anomaly where the building's structural lines make even modest doubling appear distinct. Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-2827 and DMR-012, this variety has been documented across three die stages: Stage A with obverse and reverse in early die state, Stage B in mid die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C in late die state (unconfirmed). The Professional Life reverse, designed by Susan Gamble and sculpted by Joseph Menna, served for only one year, giving doubled die varieties from this design a built-in scarcity of production window that Memorial reverse varieties spanning fifty years could never match.
