Description

Light extra thickness shows the date and the hair and beard details. Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: A small die gouge can be found north of the L in LIBERTY. Obverse Stage B: A small die gouge (dot) can be found below the D of GOD. A die crack runs SW to NE through the hair on the upper back of the head ending south of the D of GOD. Another die crack starts below the end of the 1st one and also runs SW to NE through the hair at the top of the head ending below the W in WE. A die crack runs NNW through the eyebrow and into the forehead. Obverse Stage C: Same as Stage B. Obverse Stage D: Same as Stage C. Reverse Stage A: A die gouge can be found to the right of the top of the F in OF. A pre-die crack depression runs from ENE to WSW across the bottom of the left boot. Reverse Stage B: A short die crack runs NE from the top left N of ONE. A die crack runs from ENE to WSW across the bottom of the left boot and then curves SSW to the top right R of PLURIBUS. A die crack runs down the upper left arm. A short die crack connects the bottoms of the E and D of UNITED. A pre-die chip depression can be found on the left shoulder. Reverse Stage C: The die crack connecting the bottoms of the E and D of UNITED now runs through the lower D. A short, vertical die gouge can be found above the C in AMERICA. A die crack runs from the center of the right end of the log NE into the field. A small die chip can be found on the left shoulder replacing the pre-die chip depression seen in Stage A. A small die gouge can be found to the left of the C in CLV. A light die crack runs from the rim to the top right U of UNITED. Reverse Stage D: The die crack from the rim to the top right U of UNITED is now very heavy and runs down the right side of the U into the field ending near the lower left O of ONE.
