2009 (P) Lincoln Cent - Formative Years - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-007

Description

2009 FY WDDO-007 is a doubled die obverse on a 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial cent with the Formative Years reverse, cataloged by the Wexler team. LIBERTY's letters, the lower hair and the beard details show very strong extra thickness, and the date shows it to a lesser degree. The letters of LIBERTY carry strong notches at their upper right. Wexler lists four stages. Obverse Stage A: two light scratches heading ENE from the upper lip; a SW-to-NE crack through the hair high on the back of the head; and a crack heading NW from the eyebrow into the forehead. Stage B adds a small gouge just right of the beard. Stage C adds a second crack, SSW to NNE, through the hair high on the head's back; a large die chip at the top of the head under WE's W; a WSW-to-ENE crack through the beard's upper part; and a NE-to-SW crack through the left side of the beard. Wexler gives obverse Stage D as the same as Stage B. On the reverse, Stage A has a SW-to-NE scratch across the upper left arm and a pre-die chip depression on the left shoulder. On Stage B a die chip now sits on the left shoulder, a light crack crosses the left forearm, and another crack follows the upper part of the left arm downward; short cracks run east from the upper left of ONE's O, NE from the upper left and upper right of its N, and NE from the upper right of its E; a small die chip sits on the bottom of CENT's C; and a nearly horizontal crack crosses the middle of the mallet head. Stage C adds two parallel scratches heading SW from the log's left end to the rim, and a crack running down the left boot's center and across its bottom. On Stage D, a heavy crack crosses the middle of the mallet head and then runs SW to the rim, and a small die chip sits on the bottom of the left boot. Lucy Ginden submitted Stage A, Clarence Coon Stage B, and Brian Ribar Stages C and D. Crawford lists it as CDDO-004 and CONECA as 7-O-VI; its Coppercoins number is 2009P-1DO-007.
