2009 (P) Lincoln Cent - Formative Years - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-018

Description

2009 FY WDDO-018 is a doubled die obverse on a 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial cent with the Formative Years reverse, cataloged by the Wexler team. The date and the beard details show light extra thickness, and the lower left of the 2 in the date is notched. Obverse, Stage A: a scratch heading NE from the lower right of the L to the upper left of the I in LIBERTY; a short crack SW to NE through the hair at the upper back of the head; and a crack NW from the eyebrow into the forehead. Stage B: a short diagonal gouge below the I and B of LIBERTY, between them, and the hair crack has grown longer and now reaches the head's top. Reverse, Stage A: a scratch heading SW from the T in CENT at its base, and parallel scratches heading SW from the lower left of its E. Stage B: a chip on the top left of the T in CENT; short cracks heading NE from the O and the N of ONE, at their tops; and a diagonal crack through the lower left boot. David C.
