2009 (P) Lincoln Cent - Formative Years - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-012

Description

2009 FY WDDO-012 is a doubled die obverse on a 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial cent with the Formative Years reverse, cataloged by the Wexler team. The beard, the lower part of the hair and LIBERTY show strong extra thickness, the 2 of the date shows light extra thickness, and strong notching marks the upper left of the letters of LIBERTY. Obverse, Stage A: a scratch running SSW to NNE just right of the beard; a light scratch heading north from the top of the first zero in the date; and a crack NW through the eyebrow into the forehead. Stage B: cracks across the hair at the upper back of the head (SW to NE), through the upper front of the forehead (NNW to SSE) and through the beard (NE to SW); a crack along the bottom of the bowtie; and a gouge right of the middle of the 9. Reverse, Stage A: many north-south scratches through the cloth sticking out from the back of Lincoln's pants and to the right of the log's right end, plus a gouge below the log's right end. Stage B: short cracks leaving the O of ONE at its top (NE), the N of ONE at its top right (ENE), and the C of CENT at its top (NE); a pre-die crack depression down the upper left shoulder, WNW to ESE; a small chip on the lower right of the rolled-up left sleeve; cracks down the left forearm, down the lower left boot, along the bottom of the left boot and down the lower right boot; and a short diagonal crack through the middle of the log's right end.
