2009 (P) Lincoln Cent - Formative Years - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-010

Description

2009 FY WDDO-010 is a doubled die obverse on a 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial cent with the Formative Years reverse, cataloged by the Wexler team. Extra thickness shows on the beard, on the lower part of the hair and on LIBERTY. Wexler follows this die through four obverse stages. Stage A: a small gouge (dot) over the L in LIBERTY; a crack heading NNW out of the eyebrow and into the forehead; in the hair on top of the head, below the W in WE, there is a short horizontal pre-die crack depression; on the lower T of LIBERTY, a pre-die chip depression; and a crack down the lower nose. Stage B: that T now carries a small chip; a short crack heads south from the lower left of the B in LIBERTY; and a light crack crosses the upper lip from north to south. Stage C: the depression on top of the head has opened into a crack that arcs NW into the field right of the lower D of GOD. Stage D: very heavy clash marks appear between the bowtie and the beard, in the field right of the profile, across the nose, across the lower beard and the neck, and to the left of the head near its bottom. Reverse, Stage A: a crack down the upper left arm; a crack on the left shoulder ending in a tiny chip; short cracks leaving the O of ONE at its top (to the NE) and its N at the top right (to the north); and two cracks at the C of CENT, one going north from its upper left and one SW from its lower left; and a pre-die chip depression on the C's left side. Stage B: a small gouge under the E in CENT, toward its left, a small chip on the upper right of CENT's N, and a pre-die chip depression on the top left of its E. Stage C: that depression on the E is now a chip. Stage D: clash marks between the NT of CENT and the top of the mallet handle, between the pages of the book and the upper right arm, and under the left hand.
