Description

Part of the 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial program that introduced four commemorative reverse designs celebrating different phases of Abraham Lincoln's life, this DDO-006 appears on the Formative Years issue depicting young Lincoln reading while sitting on a log. The obverse doubling manifests as extra thickness on LIBERTY, the lower hair, and Lincoln's beard — three portrait elements where the secondary impression adds visible weight to the design contours. This die boasts an unusually detailed four-stage progression under catalog codes UVC-2691 and DMR-059. Stage A at early die state remains unconfirmed. Stage B at early-to-mid die state reveals a die crack developing on Lincoln's forehead, with the reverse confirmed as paired with DDR-055 and a die chip forming on the upper right N of ONE. Stage C at mid-die state is unconfirmed. Stage D at late die state is also unconfirmed. The DDR-055 pairing means collectors may find both obverse and reverse doubling on a single coin from this die marriage. Cataloged by VarietyVista, DDO-006 rewards examination of LIBERTY, the lower hair curls, and the beard for extra thickness indicating the secondary hub impression.
