2009 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-026

Description

Struck on the Early Childhood reverse design depicting the Kentucky log cabin where Abraham Lincoln was born, this 2009 Philadelphia cent carries DDR-026 as cataloged by VarietyVista with universal variety code UVC-2744 and die marriage record DMR-029. The doubling produces a light westward spread visible as an extra-long end to log number ten from the bottom of the cabin wall, where the hub displacement created a subtle extension of the log detail. Four die stages have been documented. In Stage A at early die state, the reverse is in early condition and light die scratches run east-west through the letters of LIBERTY on the obverse. By Stage B at early-to-mid die state, a die crack has developed on the roof above the window, die cracks appear on Lincoln's forehead, and another crack runs through the hair. Stage C at mid-die state and Stage D in late die state both remain unconfirmed. The log cabin design of the Early Childhood reverse lends itself well to doubled die detection, as the horizontal log details create clean reference lines where even small displacements become apparent under moderate magnification.
