2009 (P) Lincoln Cent - Early Childhood - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

2009 EC WDDO-003 is a doubled die obverse on a 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial cent with the Early Childhood reverse, cataloged by the Wexler team. LIBERTY's ERTY shows the doubling as extra thickness, best seen at the upper right of the Y; the details of the lower hair and the beard are thickened too. Wexler lists two stages, and the obverse markers are the same on both. They are a crack crossing the upper back of the head from SW to NE beneath the GO of GOD; a SW-to-NE crack across the hair atop the head that begins under the D of GOD and ends SSW of the W in WE; an almost horizontal pre-die crack depression on the front curl of hair, at its top, under the TR of TRUST; a crack crossing the eyebrow toward the NW and into the forehead, with a branch running west just over the eyebrow; and a crack crossing the bowtie NE to SW before curving south into the vest. The reverse is a doubled die in both stages: on Stage A it is the die listed as 2009 EC WDDR-123A, and on Stage B the one listed as 2009 EC WDDR-123B. Marilyn Keeney submitted the variety.
