Description

Cataloged as DDR-023 (UVC-2741, DMR-026), this 2009 Philadelphia Lincoln cent from the Early Childhood reverse design produces a striking visual effect: very strong southeast spread creating extra partial log ends to logs nine, ten, and eleven counting from the bottom of the cabin. Four die stages document extended production use. Stage A is in early die state with markers unconfirmed. Stage B at early-mid die state develops three die cracks radiating from the RM designer's initials, two die cracks on Lincoln's forehead, and a die break in the hair under the O of GOD. Stage C and Stage D are mid and late die state respectively, both with markers unconfirmed. The extra partial log ends are among the strongest doubled die effects on the 2009 Early Childhood design, visible without high magnification as ghosted log extensions beside the cabin structure. The Stage B crack network radiating from the designer's initials provides an early warning of die stress. The 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial cents saw limited circulation, making variety hunting primarily a matter of searching mint-sealed rolls and bags.
