2009 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-014
Error
Description
Medium spread East producing extra partial log ends on logs number 8 and number 9 from the bottom characterizes DDR-014 on the 2009 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Cent Early Childhood issue. Cataloged as UVC-2723 and DMR-017, die stage progression documents three stages: Stage A at early die state shows a light die gouge southeast from log end number 19, with the obverse also at EDS. Stage B advances to mid-die-state, unconfirmed. Stage C reaches late die state, also unconfirmed. The Early Childhood reverse depicts a log cabin representing Lincoln's Kentucky birthplace, and the eastward spread creates partial duplicates of the log ends protruding from the cabin wall. The log cabin design, by Richard Masters and sculpted by Jim Licaretz, provides distinctive geometric elements where hub doubling produces clearly identifiable extra log end diagnostics. The die gouge southeast of log end 19 at Stage A provides an early die state marker. This Bicentennial reverse variety documents hub doubling on one of the four special 2009 designs celebrating Lincoln's two-hundredth birthday.
