Description
WDDR-004 is a doubled die reverse cataloged for the 2008 Philadelphia Mint New Mexico State Quarter. The New Mexico reverse features the Zia sun symbol — a sacred emblem of the Zia Pueblo people representing the four cardinal directions — centered over a topographical outline of the state, with the inscription "Land of Enchantment." Doubled die reverses on this design can affect any of these distinctive elements, and the geometric precision of the Zia symbol's radiating lines makes even slight hub displacement detectable under magnification. The 2008 date marks the final year of the original State Quarter program that began in 1999, making New Mexico one of the last five states honored before the series concluded. This variety is cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 2008-P 25¢ NM WDDR-004.
