2008 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DEO-001T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Trails come from several parts of the design on 2008D-1DEO-001T: the TY of LIBERTY and the TR of TRUST, the mint mark and date, and the back of Lincoln's collar. All run at 300°, west-northwest. The number gives 2008D, a Denver date, then 1 for the denomination and DEO for an obverse extension, then file 001 and T. On the middle-die-state coin two gouges lie right of WE; the reverse has no markers. Jean Lee found it. Trails are generally attributed to polishing of the die with a rotary buff, while a minority attributes them to movement of the die against the hub.
