2008 (D) Alaska State Quarter - D(AK)-25DER-002T Trail Die Reverse

Description

2008D(AK)-25DER-002T is the second TrailDies file for an Alaska quarter reverse from Denver. After the date and mint comes AK for the Alaska design, then the quarter's 25 and DER for its reverse, with 002T closing the number. Here the lines run out from the bear's left claw and from the salmon's pectoral fins into the open field, heading west at 260°. A chip in that same claw helps confirm the die, and the obverse shows light cracks leaving Washington's eyebrow and the tip of his nose. Louis Fan found it. Trails are usually attributed to die polishing, in which a rotary buff wears grooves outward from the design; some attribute them to die-to-hub movement.

• Stage "B", obverse is LMDS – light die cracks are seen entering into the field from Washington's eye brow and the tip of his nose.
• Reverse is LMDS – a die chip is seen in the bear's left claw.
