Trail die varieties occur when a faint secondary impression of the design appears offset from the primary, caused by unintended die-to-die or die-to-hub contact during manufacturing or press setup procedures. The "T" suffix in the catalog number identifies this as a confirmed trail die variety within the Trail Dies reference system. Die marker documentation identifies Stage "B" at mid-die-state (MDS) with diagnostics on both sides: the obverse shows a small die dot below the first zero of the date, while the reverse exhibits a die dot over the M of UNUM and another die dot to the left of the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM.
