2006 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-009T Trail Die Reverse

Description

TrailDies treats 2006D-1DER-009T as a complex die with trails in two directions. The first set runs at 350°, just west of north, from UNIT in UNITED, from the cornice and from the upper left corners of the motto letters. The second runs at 060°, east-northeast, from the upper right corners of those same letters, so E PLURIBUS UNUM carries both. The number stands for a 2006 Denver cent (2006D, 1), a reverse design extension (DER), file 009 and trails (T). The stage B obverse has a small dot beneath the date's first 0; the reverse has one between the O and N of ONE. Jean Lee found the die. Two-direction trails, like single ones, are usually put down to rotary polishing of the die, with some attributing them to die movement against the hub.
