2006D-1DER-004T Trail Die Reverse

Description

Designated 2006D-1DER-004T in the Trail Dies reference system, this variety on the 2006-D Lincoln Memorial Cent was discovered by Jean Lee. Trail dies form when die surface impressions from a previous hubbing or die operation are transferred to a working die, leaving ghosted or secondary design elements as diagnostic artifacts. Stage B die state markers on this die are the primary confirmation evidence: the obverse at Stage B is Middle Die State with no significant markers specifically noted; the reverse at Stage B is Middle Die State and carries a small die dot on the second tier of the stylobate — the stepped platform base on which the Memorial columns rest — to the left, a small die dot in the lower portion of bay No. 1, and a die crack. The stylobate detail is architecturally specific: the Lincoln Memorial's stylobate forms the lowest structural tier supporting the colonnade.
