Original Research
Description
On 2006D-1DER-003T the trails are isolated, showing only on three letters of AMERICA, the M, E and C, and they run due east at 090°, toward the right edge of the coin. The number names the year and the Denver mint, the denomination (1), TrailDies' reverse design extension class (DER), file 003 and the trail type (T). TrailDies describes a late die state (stage C). On the obverse, small gouges flank GOD, one left of the G and one at the right of the O; on the reverse a small gouge lies above the T of CENT. Bill Slaughter found the die. Trails are generally attributed to polishing of the die with a rotary tool; a less common view connects them to the die moving against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – small die gouge to the left of the G in GOD. Small die gouge is seen on the right side of the O in GOD.
- Reverse is LDS – small die gouge over the T of CENT
