Description

Isolated trail lines on the M, E, and C of AMERICA at an offset direction of 090 degrees distinguish this Trail Dies-cataloged Lincoln Memorial Cent from the Denver Mint, found by Bill Slaughter. The isolated nature of these trail lines — affecting only specific letters rather than a continuous band — suggests a brief, localized contact event. Die markers at Stage C: obverse at LDS with a small die gouge to the left of G in GOD and on the right side of O in GOD; reverse at LDS with a small die gouge over the T of CENT. The LDS designation indicates this trail die observation was documented on a die pair nearing the end of its service life. Struck in copper-plated zinc at 2.5 grams and 19.05 mm, the 2006-D was produced at Denver during the final years of Gasparro's Memorial reverse.

Die Markers

  • Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – small die gouge to the left of the G in GOD. Small die gouge is seen on the right side of the O in GOD.
  • Reverse is LDS – small die gouge over the T of CENT
