2006D-1DER-001WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

On the 2006 Denver Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent, trail die variety 2006D-1DER-001WS displays moderate multiple fluting line extensions into the stylobate beneath columns 10, 11, and 12, with fainter extensions under column 9 and very faint step deviation under column 8. This unusual die concentrates all its strength on the right side of the reverse, creating an asymmetric trail die pattern uncommon among Memorial Cent varieties. Documented at Stage B, the obverse is at mid-die-state with no markers observed. The reverse is also at MDS, carrying die damage in the cornice over column 5 and a die dot in the upper left part of bay 10. The descending intensity of fluting from column 12 through column 8 provides a gradient diagnostic pattern, while the isolated die damage over column 5 on the opposite side of the facade offers an independent confirmation point for attribution.
