Wexler Variety ID: 2005-S 25¢ Pr OR WDDR-001 is a DDR for the 2005-S Proof Oregon State Quarter. San Francisco struck all proof State Quarters, and mirror-like fields with frosted devices make hub doubling particularly visible — reflective surfaces amplify contrast between primary and secondary impressions. Oregon's Crater Lake reverse depicts the volcanic caldera surrounded by towering cliffs and evergreens, providing rich topographic detail against which hub displacement can be measured. The WDDR-001 designation means this was the earliest DDR identified for the 2005-S proof Oregon quarter, establishing the reference point for subsequent discoveries. Proof dies receive special preparation including polishing and chromium plating, yet the hubbing process remains susceptible to positional variations that produce doubled dies on business strike dies as well.
