2005-D Doubled Die Reverse DDR-007
Error
Description
The seventh doubled die reverse for the 2005-D Oregon State Quarter, DDR-007 displays light spread in the lower right side of the volcano depicted on the reverse — Crater Lake's Wizard Island, the iconic volcanic cinder cone rising from the caldera lake that defines Oregon's contribution to the 50 State Quarters program. Die markers include UVC-1671 and DMR-009, with Stage A confirmed in early die state for both reverse and obverse, while Stages B (MDS) and C (LDS) remain unconfirmed. The EDS confirmation means the doubling appears at its sharpest before progressive die wear could soften the secondary images. Comments note this variety can be found with a satin finish in 2005 Mint Sets — the United States Mint produced satin finish coins from 2005 through 2010 for inclusion in annual uncirculated sets, giving them a distinctive matte-like surface different from the standard business strike luster. The Oregon quarter's reverse, designed by Donna Weaver, features Crater Lake with Wizard Island and Watchman Peak, encircled by the state name, motto, and admission year. The Denver Mint struck 404,000,000 Oregon quarters in 2005 in copper-nickel clad at 5.67 grams. Cataloged by VarietyVista. Examine the lower right portion of the volcanic landscape under magnification for the light doubling that defines DDR-007.
