Description

Attributed by the Wexler Team as 2004-P 25-cent FL WDDO-001, this is a doubled die obverse variety cataloged for the 2004 Florida State Quarter. A misalignment during the die hubbing process created visible doubling on the obverse design elements, which on the State Quarter series consists of John Flanagan's George Washington portrait shared across all fifty state issues, along with IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, QUARTER DOLLAR, and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. No cross-references to CONECA or Cherrypickers have been established. The 2004-P Florida State Quarter was struck at the Philadelphia Mint on copper-nickel clad planchets weighing 5.67 grams with a diameter of 24.26 mm. The Florida quarter, the twenty-seventh coin in the State Quarter program authorized by the 50 States Commemorative Coin Program Act of 1997, features a reverse designed by T. James Ferrell depicting a Spanish galleon, a space shuttle, the Florida peninsula, and Sabal palm trees with the inscription "Gateway to Discovery."
