2004 (P) Florida State Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002

Description

2004-P FL WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse on the 2004-P Florida state quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling is on the underside of Washington's earlobe. Obverse Stage A shows short east-west scratches through the E of WE, a small gouge right of the R of TRUST, a gouge at the rim under the R of DOLLAR, a gouge under the A of DOLLAR, and gouges between the E and R of LIBERTY. Stage B adds three small round gouges (dots), each to the right of a letter's center: the second S of STATES, the R of AMERICA and the R of QUARTER. Reverse Stage A has a gouge touching the land over the RY of DISCOVERY, a gouge over the D of DISCOVERY on its left side, a curved gouge in the 2 of 2004, at its inner corner, a gouge at the first A of GATEWAY by its lower left serif, and gouges right of the D of FLORIDA. On Stage B there is die pitting inside the R of FLORIDA, low down, and a gouge under the leaves on the second palm tree's right side. Eric Schmidt submitted Stage A and Marilyn Keeney submitted Stage B. Wexler lists no cross-references.
