2001 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-007T Trail Die Reverse

Description

Michael Pope of Illinois found 2001D-1DER-007T, a 2001 Denver reverse where trails rise from the top edges of the motto's letters and from ATES in STATES. They point to 060°, between north and east but nearer east, so toward the right side of the coin and slightly up. In TrailDies' scheme the opening block is year and mint, the 1 is the cent, DER marks a design extension on the reverse, 007 is the file and T means trails. The obverse of the middle-die-state coin has a gouge left of IN, and the reverse a faint scratch low in the Memorial's fourth bay. Specialists mostly attribute trails to the die being polished with a rotary buff, while some argue for movement of the die against the hub.

• Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – a die gouge is seen to the left of the word IN.
• Reverse is MDS – a light die scratch is seen in the bottom of bay 4.
