2001 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-001WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

Nearly every column on this Denver reverse carries its effect down into the stairs or the stylobate. TrailDies files it as 2001D-1DER-001WS: the year with Denver's D, the one-cent denomination, DER (its code for a design extension on a reverse), file 001, and WS, wavy steps, where trail lines cross the Memorial's staircase and make the treads look bent. Fluting lines are strong under columns 2, 3, 11 and 12, and the stairs deviate strongly beneath columns 5 through 9. The left post (urn) has moderate deviation below it, the right post only a trace. All of it points to 190°, slightly west of due south. On the stage B coin TrailDies describes, a small bar lies beside the G of GOD and a gouge sits between the N and E of ONE. Most specialists put trails down to polishing of the die with a rotary buff, though a minority think the die moved against the hub.
