2001 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DEO-003T Trail Die Obverse

Description

2001D-1DEO-003T carries light trails from the upper left corners of the IBER in LIBERTY, angled at 340°, north-northwest and close to straight up. TrailDies' number reads 2001 with the Denver D, 1 for a cent, DEO for the obverse design extension, file 003 and T for trails. The middle-die-state coin has three tiny die dots above the IB of LIBERTY and a small gouge below the I of IN, with nothing noted on the reverse. Those dots and the gouge are the way to tell it from file 004, whose trails look nearly the same. Jeremy Gardner found the die. Trails are commonly blamed on rotary polishing of the die, with a minority blaming the die moving against the hub.
