Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista as DDR-001 for the 2000-D Lincoln Memorial Cent, this variety presents a distinctive doubling mechanism: medium spread rotated clockwise at approximately 45 degrees, manifesting as an extra set of column number 6 and 7 bars and an extra knee slightly above the right knee of the Lincoln statue inside Frank Gasparro's Memorial reverse. The 45-degree rotational component distinguishes this from simple directional spreads, creating a skewed secondary impression that deposits architectural column details at an angle relative to their primary positions. Die markers UVC-2854 and DMR-002 identify the specific working die across three documented stages. Stage A shows the reverse in Early Die State while the obverse has already progressed to Mid Die State — an asymmetric die wear pattern suggesting the obverse die experienced more striking pressure or was installed first. Stage B and Stage C represent Mid and Late Die State respectively, both currently unconfirmed. The 2000-D Lincoln Memorial Cent was struck at the Denver Mint in copper-plated zinc composition (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper) at 2.50 grams on 19mm planchets. Examine the right side of the Memorial interior under 10x magnification, focusing on columns 6 and 7 and the knee area of the seated Lincoln statue for the rotated secondary impression.
