1998 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-003T Trail Die Reverse
Error
Description
Trails run straight to the left, at 270° or due west, across much of 1998D-1DER-003T. TrailDies finds them on UNI in UNITED, TATE in STATES, the left side of the motto, the roof's left corners, the cornice, the stylobate and the base line, and on NE in ONE. The number labels it as Denver's 1998 cent, reverse side (DER), file 003, type T for trails. The coin TrailDies describes is a middle die state with a small dot at the left edge of the collar on the obverse and a gouge above the left-side shrubs on the reverse. The usual explanation is rotary polishing of the die face; some instead link the effect to die movement against the hub.
Die Markers
- Obverse is MDS – a small die dot is seen on the left edge of the collar.
- Reverse is MDS – a die gouge is seen over the shrubs on the left side of the Memorial building.
