1998 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DEO-004T Trail Die Obverse

Description

1998D-1DEO-004T takes its trails from the tops of WE and TRUST, part of the obverse motto, and they head east-northeast at 060°. Broken down, the TrailDies number is the date with D for Denver, 1 for one cent, DEO for an obverse design extension, 004 as its file and a closing T for trails. On the middle-die-state coin described, a small gouge sits left of the W in WE, and the reverse has a gouge halfway out from the Memorial's left corner toward the rim. Michael Pope of Illinois found the die. Like most trail dies, this one is usually explained by rotary polishing of the die, with movement against the hub the minority explanation.

• Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – a small die gouge is seen to the left of the W in WE.
• Reverse is MDS – a die gouge is seen half way between the rim and the left corner of the Memorial building.
