1998 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DEO-003T Trail Die Obverse

Description

On 1998D-1DEO-003T the trails are short but fairly strong, leaving the upper left corners of the LIBERTY letters at 300°, west-northwest. The file number decodes as 1998 Denver cent (1998D, 1), obverse design extension (DEO), file 003, trail type (T). Its steeper westward angle sets it apart from the two 330° Denver obverses filed before it. The middle-die-state coin TrailDies describes has gouges in and around the date, plus a small reverse dot sitting between CENT's N and T. Bob Piazza of Florida found it. Most attribute lines like these to the die being polished with a rotary buff, and some to the die moving against the hub.
