Description

1996P-10DER-001T is a 1996 Philadelphia Roosevelt dime reverse whose trails hang from the bottom of STATES, running at 200°, south-southwest, down and slightly left. In TrailDies' code, 1996P is the year and mint, 10 the dime, DER a reverse design extension, and 001T the file and its trail type. Michael J. Taylor of New Jersey found it. The coin described is late (stage C): a gouge sits above the first 9 of the date, while the reverse has a heavy gouge running from the I through the T of UNITED, with more heavy gouges through the ME of DIME. The cause usually cited is a rotary buff polishing the die; a minority cites the die moving against the hub.
