1996 (D) Washington Quarter - D-25DEO-002T Trail Die Obverse
Error
Description
On 1996D-25DEO-002T, a 1996 Denver Washington quarter obverse, trails come off the letters of IN GOD WE TRUST and from the L and I of LIBERTY, running northwest at 330°. TrailDies' number reads 1996D for date and mint, 25 for the quarter, DEO for its obverse, and 002T for the second trail file. The coin it describes is from very late in the die's life, with a chip in the O of GOD. Cal Goddard found the die. Trails are usually put down to rotary polishing of the die, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “C “, obverse is ELDS – the O in GOD has a die chip. Note the machine doubling on IGWT.
- Reverse is ELDS –
