1995 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-023WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

Light wavy steps under columns 5 to 8 identify 1995P-1DER-023WS, with the lines running at 180°, due south. In the code, 1995P is a 1995 Philadelphia strike, 1 the cent, DER a design extension on the reverse, 023 the file, and WS TrailDies' label for trails that cross the Memorial's stairs and leave them looking warped. The reverse die TrailDies describes is well worn, at a late state: a chip near the top of column 1, a large break with chips and a crack in column 2, and a crack that reaches from the rim to the C of CENT. Its obverse, by contrast, is an early-state die with no markers noted. Die polishing with a rotary buff is the explanation most specialists give for the steps; a smaller number point to the die moving against the hub.
