1995 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-005WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

Every column on the reverse of 1995P-1DER-005WS shows the effect. Sharp fluting lines, strong to moderate and several per column, carry down into the stylobate under columns 1 to 3 and 10 to 12, while the steps under columns 4 through 9 bend strongly and cleanly; even both urns have a light single line beneath them. TrailDies rates it a very strong wavy step. Its code runs date and mint (1995P), denomination (1), side and category (DER, reverse design extension), file (005) and type (WS), the type being TrailDies' term for trails that cut across the Memorial's stairs. The direction is 180°, due south. On the late-state coin described, a die dot sits in the N of UNUM and a gouge lies left of column 1. Wavy steps, like other trails, are usually attributed to polishing of the die with a rotary buff; some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
