Description

1995P-1DER-003WS pairs a moderate fluting line under column 3 with lightly bent steps beneath columns 5, 6 and 7. In TrailDies' scheme that makes it a Philadelphia one-cent piece of 1995 with a design extension on the reverse (DER), file 003, of the wavy-step type (WS): trails that cross the Memorial's stairway and make its steps look rippled. The lines head due south at 180°. The middle-die-state coin TrailDies lists has no reverse markers, so the obverse does the work: die scratches before Lincoln's throat and others between WE and TRUST. The usual explanation for wavy steps is polishing of the die by a rotary buff; others attribute them to die movement against the hub.
