1995 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-006T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Bill Slaughter of Arkansas found 1995P-1DEO-006T, a 1995 Philadelphia cent obverse whose trails extend from the upper edges of the letters in IN GOD WE and in LIBERTY. They run at 300°, west-northwest, up and to the left. In the code, 1995P is the year and mint, 1 the denomination, DEO an obverse design extension, 006 the file number and T the trail type. TrailDies' example is stage D, very late in the die's life: gouges sit above the 95 of the date, while the reverse has a small gouge below the leg of AMERICA's R. TrailDies and most others attribute trails to polishing of the die with a rotary buff; a minority holds that the die moving against the hub causes them.
