1995 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-002T Trail Die Obverse

Description

1995P-1DEO-002T shows its trails less as lines than as distortion in the motto IN GOD WE TRUST, pointing 250°, west-southwest, toward the lower left. Small knobs project from the upper left of IN, of WE and of the T in TRUST, with WE carrying the heaviest. TrailDies also counts lines under the L and I of LIBERTY as part of it, since they share its direction, though die scratches run that way too. The number breaks down as 1995 and P (Philadelphia), 1 for cent, DEO for obverse design extension, file 002 and T for trails. The coin described is stage C, late for both dies, and TrailDies expects earlier strikes may show clearer trails. Reverse cracks cross the cornice above bays 2 to 4 and run from above column 9 through the R of AMERICA to the rim. Most specialists attribute trails to rotary polishing of the die, with some instead pointing to the die moving against the hub.
