1995-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

Listed in the Cherrypickers' Guide as FS-01-1995D-101 (041) and cross-referenced as CONECA 3-O-V, Crawford CDDO-003, and Coppercoins 1995D-1DO-003, this 1995-D Lincoln Memorial Cent carries strong Class V counterclockwise hub doubling from a pivot at approximately 8:00. The spread is prominent on IN GOD WE TRUST, all upper hair details, the ear, eyelid, date, and mint mark. Class V doubling occurs when the hub pivots during hubbing, producing a fanned spread that radiates from the pivot point — in this case located near the 8:00 position, causing the strongest displacement on design elements furthest from that anchor. Struck in copper-plated zinc at the Denver Mint, this cent was produced during the same period as the celebrated 1995 Philadelphia doubled die obverse that drew national media attention. The obverse carries a die gouge appearing as a dot on the center of the neck, and a short diagonal die gouge sits south of ER in LIBERTY. No reverse die markers have been noted. The Cherrypickers listing ensures sustained collector demand for this variety as a commercially significant doubled die.
