1995-D Doubled Die Obverse DDO-003
Error
Description
Among the most dramatically doubled Lincoln Memorial cents of the 1990s, the 1995-D DDO-003 displays very strong spread on an expansive array of design elements: IN GOD WE TRUST, all upper hair details, the right side of the ear, the upper left beard, eyelid, date, and mintmark — virtually the entire obverse of Victor David Brenner's Lincoln portrait shows evidence of hub displacement. Cross-referenced as FS-103 (041) in the Cherrypickers' Guide, this variety carries the broad market recognition that Fivaz-Stanton listings provide, establishing pricing benchmarks and ensuring dealer awareness. VarietyVista documented the die under UVC-2447 and DMR-004, anchoring this variety within the systematic classification framework. Denver struck approximately 6.41 billion cents in 1995, an astronomical production volume that represents one of the largest single-year cent outputs in history — and yet the very strong spread of DDO-003 makes it readily identifiable among the billions of coins produced. The very strong designation elevates this variety above the more common light or medium spread doubled dies, indicating that the secondary hub impression is clearly displaced from the primary across all affected design elements without requiring extreme magnification. The breadth of affected areas — spanning from the motto through the portrait details to the date and mintmark — points to a substantial angular hub displacement that created visible separation across essentially the entire obverse. While the 1995 DDO-001 (the famous 1995 doubled die cent) commands the most collector attention for this year, the DDO-003 with its very strong spread and FS-103 listing represents a significant attribution target. Collectors should examine IN GOD WE TRUST and the upper hair details under 10x magnification, where the very strong spread produces clearly visible secondary impressions displaced from the primary design.
