Description

The primary doubled die obverse for the 1995 Denver Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent, DDO-001 presents medium spread across four separate obverse design elements: LIBERTY, the vest detail on Lincoln's coat, the date, and the D mintmark. Affecting four distinct areas simultaneously places this variety among the more broadly distributed doubled dies in the Lincoln cent series, as many DDOs confine visible doubling to one or two features. Die markers UVC-2445 and DMR-002 fingerprint this working die. The inclusion of the mintmark among the doubled features is diagnostically significant — because the Denver Mint hand-punched the D into each working die individually during this era, the mintmark's doubling confirms the hub misalignment affected areas of the die beyond just the hubbed design, or that the mintmark happened to fall within the zone of visible displacement.
