1994 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-007WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

On 1994P-1DER-007WS the fluting of columns 2 and 3 carries into the stylobate, strong to moderate, and the steps below columns 5 to 8 bend with the same strength, all offset at 200°, south-southwest. Bent steps like these, with trails crossing each stair, are what the WS (wavy steps) suffix records. Ahead of WS in the number come 1994P (struck in Philadelphia in 1994), the cent's denomination 1, DER, TrailDies' code for a reverse-side design extension, and file 007. Look for a gouge above the B of LIBERTY on this late (stage C) coin, and on the reverse a retained crack joining the U and M in UNUM. The standard account puts trails down to a die polished with a rotary tool, though some think the die moved on the hub.
