1994 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-006WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

Moderate wavy steps under columns 5 through 8 are the whole of the trail pattern on 1994P-1DER-006WS: lines cross the Memorial's stairs so they appear to ripple, offset straight down at 180°. The code: 1994P for date and mint, 1 for cent, DER for the reverse design extension, 006 for the file, WS for wavy steps. TrailDies lists two die states. At stage C the obverse has a gouge by the rim above the L of LIBERTY, and the reverse die face is bent in the area from CENT's T to the right tip of the Memorial's base. Stage D, very late, adds a crack in Lincoln's head, with the reverse unchanged. Trails are commonly credited to rotary polishing of the working die; others suggest the die moved against the hub.
