1994 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-005WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

On 1994P-1DER-005WS the fluting of columns 1, 2, 3, 11 and 12 reaches down into the stylobate, moderate to strong, and the stairs below columns 5 to 8 bend strongly, at 190°, a little west of south. Those bent stairs are TrailDies' wavy steps, the WS that ends a number otherwise made of 1994P for Philadelphia, a 1 for the denomination, DER for the reverse design extension and file 005. Lines also leave the stylobate's left corner and the left urn, and the bottoms of EPU and its periods carry moderately strong trails. Stage B has a gouge under IN, one low in bay 1 and a small one right of the designer's initials. By stage C the reverse is terminal, a large retained break sitting mid-stairs, yet the trails fade only a little. Polishing the die with a rotary buff is the usual attribution, with die movement against the hub as the alternative some favour.
