1994 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-003WS Trail Die Reverse
Error
Description
1994P-1DER-003WS: a Philadelphia cent of 1994 (1994P, 1) with a reverse design extension (DER), file 003, of the WS type, short for wavy steps, where trail lines across the Memorial's staircase give the steps a rippled look. Here the bending is strong to moderate below columns 5 to 8, and the fluting of column 3 extends moderately into the stylobate. Everything runs at 190°, slightly west of south. The stage C coin shows no obverse markers; on its late reverse, gouges mark the bottom of the E in ONE. Only one column's fluting is affected, which sets it apart from dies where columns 2 and 3 both extend. Most writers attribute the bent stairs to rotary polishing of the die, and some to movement between die and hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – none observed
- Reverse is LDS – die gouges on the bottom of the E in ONE.
